Key Groups
Each child has a named key person and their group of children is named after an animal. The key person will be your main contact and soon after your child starts at Pre-school, a settling meeting will be arranged for you to discuss with them how everything is going. Although all of our practitioners will interact with and care for your child, their key person is always a familiar face for them to go to. We have a pairing system for the groups so that at story time, the same two groups will always be together; the key person of the second group will therefore also be very familiar to your child. We aim to arrange it so that personal care, such as nappy changing, will usually be carried out by the key person when they are free or, in their absence, by the key person of the paired group.
As well as being there for your child, the key person is responsible for ensuring that your child is accessing all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, encouraging any special interests they have and making sure that they are tracked in all areas and observations posted on Tapestry for you to see; where appropriate they will conduct the two-year check with you and write the end of year transition report.
